PSV stumbles at last step: no overall record
PSV misses appointment with all-time record
After winning the first seventeen games of the 2023/24 Eredivisie, PSV needed another success to set a new all-time record: instead, on Sunday, è came a 1-1 draw in Utrecht that frustrated the ambitions of the Boeren, who will sì remain in history as the record holder of successes, but together with a "other" PSV, that of the 1987/88 season.
Yet things seemed to be looking moreù than good again today for the men coached by Peter Bosz, who after only 7' of play found the lead thanks to Johan Bakayoko’s goal. The hosts, currently in the less noble half of the standings, were, however, able to fight back, equalizing on 53' with Othman Boussaid.
Despite their efforts, PSV were no longer able to score and had to end the match by settling for the point in the standings. The draw was useful to maintain the large lead in the standings over second-placed Feyenoord, but it prevented one of the most prestigious clubs in Holland from signing a record that would have had the unbelievable.
This year's PSV, hurtling toward what would be the 25th title in its history, had not only won the previous 17 matches, but had done so on no fewer than 16 occasions with at least two goals to spare: the "worst" result, before today's draw, had in fact been the 2-1 success against Feyenoord itself, which follows it in the standings.
