Paris 2024, first US roster list: there are LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Joel Embiid
LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Joel Embiid have been named among the 41 players on the US basketball roster for the 2024 Olympics. The star-studded group will be reduced to a 12-man squad for this summer’s Olympics in Paris, where the U.S. will chase a fifth consecutive gold medal.
Among other things, the provisional player pool contains 28 players who have already represented the United States at the Olympics or World Cup. The 39-year-old LeBron James will chase a third gold medal in what will be his first Olympic appearance since the 2012 London Games.
Philadelphia 76ers star Embiid will play for the United States for the first time since pledging allegiance to the "stars and stripes" team last October. The Cameroon-born champion was eligible his country of birth, for France and the United States, but opted for the U.S.
The team will be coached by Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, with Gonzaga University’s Mark Few, Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra as assistants.
Ahead of the Games, the United States will play against Canada in Las Vegas on July 10, before exhibition matches against South Sudan on July 20 and Germany on July 22 in London.
