New important role for Andriy Shevchenko
Andriy Shevchenko è the new president of the Football Federation of Ukraine (UAF). The former footballer, one of the symbols of the successes of AC Milan in the early 2000s, è was elected on Thursday at the plenary session held at the Ukrainian Football Federation headquarters in Kiev: 93 out of 94 votes of delegates in favor of Sheva, the sole candidate and the only one to abstain (he himself, in fact, è one of the delegates and did not participate in the vote).
Born in 1976, Shevchenko è still considered the strongest soccer player in Ukraine's history. He grew up in the Kiev Dynamo of 'Colonel' Valeriy Lobanovskyi, where he played from youth until his first years as a professional, then switched to AC Milan in the summer of 1999, quickly becoming an idol for the Rossoneri fans.
With the Milanese club, Shevchenko won the Champione League, the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Super Cup in 2003, the Scudetto and the Italian Super Cup in 2004, twice winning the Serie A top scorer title, in 1999/2000 and 2003/04, both times with 24 goals to his credit.
Shevchenko also played for Chelsea and, after a brief return to the Rossoneri ranks, ended his career at 'his' Dinamo Kiev. As a coach he led the Ukrainian national team between 2016 and 2021, while at club level he briefly led Genoa, from November 2021 to January 2022.
