The downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo began with a nasty crash. Mikaela Shiffrin è was the protagonist of a bad fall in the early stages of her run. The World Cup ranking leader è ran into a mistake after 20" of the race, getting caught on the first jump and ending up violently against the protective nets.

The American skier è managed to get back on her feet, but failed to support her left knee and limped conspicuously. The 28-year-old è was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital facility to do further investigations and verify with more certainty the'extentà of the injury.

Last weekend Shiffrin had won the slalom in Jasn. On the Slovakian slope, the U.S. had taken victory number 95 in her World Cup career confirming the first place of the first run but with only 14 hundredths of a margin over Croatian 19-year-old Zrinka Ljutic, who had returned to the podium after a year since the only previous one.
