Mike Maignan will not be granted honorary citizenship of Udine

The center-right minority in Udine’s city council decided not to support Mayor Alberto Felice De Toni’s proposal to award honorary citizenship to Mike Maignan after the events dating back to the Udinese-Milan match on January 20.

A proposal that, to become a reality, needed the votes of three quarters of the city councilors and thus also the support of the minority, which instead did not want to actively support the administration in its initiative against racism and discrimination. A total of 38 councilors voted, with the majority in favor with 25 votes, 13 opposed by the minority on the council and 3 absent.

"I note with regret that the center-right did not è stand with us at this delicate time. It è missed the opportunity to show that our city è è united and clearly distancing itself from what happened, which, although frequent in different stages and enacted by a few individuals, does not represent the city in the least. Né much less our fans" commented the mayor of the Friulian city warmly.
