Modena Volleyball: Alberto Giuliani è the new coach
The press conference to present Alberto Giuliani, the new coach of Modena Volleyball, was held this afternoon at the PalaPanini press room. Present, in addition to the new Gialloblù coach, were also President Giulia Gabana and Sports Director Alberto Casadei. Born in San Severino Marche, Giuliani returns to Italy after the Piacenza experience he lived from 2015 to 2018.
In his coaching career, the Marche coach has won three Italian championships, a Greek championship, three Italian supercups, an Italian Cup, a Turkish supercup, a CEV Cup and a Challenge Cup. In the national team, however, he won a silver medal at the European Championships at the helm of Slovenia in 2019 and 2021.
"È it has been a complicated month – Giulia Gabana began – in the last few days with the staff and management we talked at length to find a solution and understand how to get out of this negative moment. When we realized that there was no longer a chance to move forward with Petrella, we made a decision that was very painful. We believed in the three-year project we launched this summer, we worked with a lot of enthusiasm, but difficulties arose that we did not expect and this forced us to make a change of course. I believe a lot in the team we have built, with a better game and a different serenity on the field we can rise again. Francesco Petrella has competence, dedication, passion and has done everything he could, I wish him the best things for his professional career. The first time I spoke with Giuliani è was yesterday afternoon, until the match with Padova there was never the idea of a change of bench, after that defeat è was born a succession of situations that led us to this choice. What prompted us to change was not the results, but the way the team was going on the field, replacing the coach was the only great means at our disposal to shake things up and try to make the boys regain more serenity. With Alberto Giuliani we have not yet talked about next year, we start by thinking about the present. The team definitely has the will to react, right now they are in difficultyà but I think they have all the cards in order to express a better game".
"The choice of Alberto Giuliani è matured in a short time – continued Alberto Casadei – when we decided to change technical guidance we thought of him, yesterday è he came here to meet us and we presented our situation to him. In building the team we è wanted to focus on a young project with some experienced players who could support and guide them. As a society; we always tried to accompany Petrella in his choices but without forcing them, we always wanted to respect his role. Having to change course hurts, we are all responsible for the performance of this season, I have now asked the team for a reaction that is necessary because we believe in the continuity of this technical project. The value of the Superleague è undisputed, we have never set a ranking goal but we are focused on our how and our identity. The beginning of the championship had given good signs, the goal now is to regain that identity, and to do that we have to roll up our sleeves and work. Rinaldi? It is essential for us that he return to doing what he knows, we will try to put him in the best conditions to find his game".
"That of these days è was a very fast negotiation – Alberto Giuliani then explains – with the management of Modena Volley we understood each other immediately. Definitely I take in hand a difficult situation, è an honor for me to be of help to lift the season of a club like this. I think this team group has a very good chance, the mix of young and experienced seems functional to me, now I will have to try to understand what has è not gone in the last period. Being here è a challenge, these are part of our job and my way of experiencing it. I see potential in the team here, I know the players well, I think there is quality and that right now we are not playing well. Certainly the mental aspect influences a lot, but I will now analyze the situation from the technical aspect. Civitanova? On Sunday I will experience two wonderful feelings: that of going there as an opponent and especially that of sitting for the first time on the bench of a unique company like Modena Volleyball. Rinaldi? What I appreciate about him è the character, è very young but he knows how to be on the court and it is up to him now to show that his potential can è materialize. As a team we need to find some certainties, some strong points that are the basis of our identity ".
