Formula 1 bars the way for Andretti. For now
No eleventh team in F1 in 2025. We’ll talk about it (maybe) in 2028
Formula One’s top management has rejected the request of the Andretti Formula Racing project, headed by Michael Andretti, to join the Circus starting in 2025 or, as a second step, in 2026. The 'no' from the most important open-wheel series è was confirmed in an official note released by Liberty Media.
"Our evaluation process has determined that the presence of an'eleventh team would not, by itself, provide value to the Championship,‖ the statement reads. The most significant way in which a new entrant would bring value è is by being competitive. We do not believe that the applicant would be a competitive participant".
"The need for any new team to require a mandatory supply of powertrains, potentially over a period of several seasons, would be detrimental to the prestige and standing of the championship,” the Circus leadership continued. The door of entry, however, è has been left open for 2028 by F1 on the condition that General Motors, the U.S. automotive giant whose Cadillac brand had supported Andretti's entry, would join the bid as an official team or customer team".
Meanwhile, teams already active in Formula 1 are preparing for the season that will begin in early March in Bahrain. Ten teams are competing: Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, Alpine, Williams, Haas, as well as Racing Bulls and Kick Sauber, which will represent, in 2024, the realities that until last year were called AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo.
