It's Marco Odermatt again, mattatore of the men's World Cup alpine skiing season, who is celebrating in Aspen: in Saturday's giant-bis, the Swiss won yet another success in a season that will see him take the overall CdM, an achievement arithmetically acquired already a week ago after the giant in Palisades Tahoe.
Odermatt, third in the first run, made a comeback in the second, putting his compatriot Loid Meillard (34 hundredths gap after the decisive fraction) and Norway’s Timon Haugan (third at 58 hundredths) behind him. Luca De Aliprandini’s performance was good, fourth at 68 hundredths from Odermatt and just ahead of Alex Vinatzer, who però pays, towards the Swiss champion, one second and 15 hundredths.
Noteworthy was the performance of the Bolzano racer, who in the first run had not gone beyond 14th position. As for the other Azzurri, Filippo Della Vite (twelfth after the first run) ends up off the track in the second after setting a bad entry, Giovanni Borsotti (twentieth in the first run) and Hannes Zingerle also retire in the second fraction.
Already winner of the overall Cup, Odermatt leads the (also already won) specialty Cup with full points: 900 points in a ranking that sees, as the best of the Azzurri, Alex Vinatzer, 12th with 178 points. Fifteenth è De Aliprandini with 154 points, Della Vite è 24th with 87 points and Borsotti just behind at 86.
