F1, Mercedes crisis: bitter admission by Toto Wolff
Toto Wolff: "We do not understand some behaviors of the car"
Marcedes experienced a nightmarish weekend in Australia last week: the W15 showed stability problems in driving all weekend, with Lewis Hamilton failing to qualify for Q3 before retiring, in the race, due to engine failure, and George Russell having a serious accident close to the checkered flag.
The car, in Melbourne, è turned out to be inconsistent despite the changes made, and in commenting on what happened the Anglo-German team’s team boss, Toto Wolff, è was rather harsh, pointing out a problem "at the level of physics" and very different performance between what was predicted by the simulator to what was è seen on the track.
"As an executive, I have to make sure that my contribution is positive and creative and I would be the first to say 'If someone has a better idea, speak up' – he told 'Motorsport.com' -. I am interested in solving the difficult situation as quickly as possible, figuring out who and how they can solve these difficulties. Our problem is not è organizational, we have not lost our compass with respect to 2021: forò we do not understand some behaviors of the car that in the past we could understand".
Wolff assured that he is not reasoning beyond this season and dismissed rumors of a possible farewell: "I look in the mirror every day, the question è legitimate but I think it is not the case to think about it now. I want to deal with the situation, I am not an employee who canò say 'I have had enough' leaving everything".
