Grigor Dimitrov puts his hands up: ‘Sinner is the best’
The precedents are in favor of the South Tyrolean
Dimitrov is having an excellent Roland Garros. Lately, the Bulgarian has found that continuity of results he has been looking for for a long time. Being in the top eight in Paris è demonstrates how he has grown, especially mentally. Beating Hurkacz in three sets (7-6, 6-4, 7-6 the match’s partials), Dimitrov will now have to face Sinner, one of the favorites for the final victory.
The two know each other quite well. They played each other in the last edition of the Miami tournament (last March 31). Specifically in the final, won by the Azure with a dry 6-3, 6-1. The record smiles on the Italian (3-1) but a guy like Dimitrov should never be trusted, especially if è on a good day and mentally focused on tennis.
Perhaps to put more pressure on Sinner, Dimitrov, after his fine victory over Hurckacz, showered the world No. 2 with praise: "Jannik, at the moment, è the strongest player in the world. È an honor to face him, these are the matches that give you that something extra," his clear words.
Clearly, Dimitrov knows that if he were to eliminate Sinner from Paris, he would take a further leap toward excellence. After being limited in his youth by the likes of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, at 33 he has a new chance to take what his talent seemed to entitle him to. It will be up to Sinner to try to dismantle his certainties.
