Roland Garros, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori beaten in men’s doubles final
In the Roland Garros men’s doubles final, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori were beaten with a score of 7-5 6-3 in one hour and 32 minutes by Honduran Marcelo Arevalo and Croatian Mate Pavic. For the two Azzurri è the second defeat out of two in a final d a Slam in 2024 after that of the Australian Open, in which they surrendered to’Indian Rohan Bopanna and Australian Matthew Ebden.
Until 5-5 in the first set there’èè not a single break ball, then Arevalo in the 11th game has to save as many as four, the first two consecutive. In the next game unfortunately è Vavassori to lose the serve and our opponents, taking advantage of the’only break ball, also bring home the set.
On’1-1 of the second parzlaie è Pavic to lose serve but soon after Vavassori suffers the’immediate counterbreak. È unfortunately still the Turinese, on 4-3, to suffer the decisive break, and Arevalo and Pavic close in the next game on the second championship point on the Salvadoran’s serve.
For Arevalo è it was the second triumph in a Slam tournament and also the first one he had won in Paris in 2022, with Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer, for Pavic, who è was world No. 1 in doubles, è instead, it was the first success in the French capital but he had already won, with three different partners, once each the other three Majors.
A great pity for Bolelli and Vavassori, who lose another Slam final, and now tennis Italy, in order to collect a title in a Roland Garros that nevertheless remains extraordinary, will rely on Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in tomorrow’s women’s doubles final against the U.S. Coco Gauff and the Czech Katerina Siniakova.
