Euro 2024, Italy: problems in midfield for Luciano Spalletti
Luciano Spalletti grappling with three problems in midfield
With only a few days to go before the Euro 2024 debut against Albania, national team coach Luciano Spalletti has to deal with a situation bordering on the emergency as far as availability in midfield is concerned. In fact, the condition of Nicolò Barella, who has already been out for a few days, continues to worry, while the latest news, in a negative sense, concerns Nicolò Fagioli and Davide Frattesi.
As for Barella, who is recovering from a muscle problem prior to the last friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina, Tuesday's training program included differentiated work, first without and then with the ball. The hope è is to find him already on Saturday night, although he in fact has no minutes in his legs since the last league match (Verona-Inter 2-2 on May 26).
Fagioli è however, is struggling with a muscle strain that made itself felt just after Sunday night’s friendly, a match in which he è remained on the field for 65'before being replaced by Bryan Cristante. The Juventino will work, just like Barella, to be available on Saturday.
The last one to stop è was Frattesi: the Inter midfielder did the athletic part of the training session with his teammates, before separating from the group and going to the gym, where he did a differentiated workout without, however, taking part in the concluding match.
Italy will begin defending its Euro 2020 title (won in the summer of 2021 due to the postponement of the event for Covid) on Saturday, June 15, at 9 p.m., at Dortmund Stadium against Albania: the two national teams are part of Group B of Euro 2024, along with Spain and Croatia.
