Gianmarco Tamberi to scream in the high jump: gold and best world seasonal performance
After Nadia Battocletti’s triumph in the 10000 meters, Gianmarco Tamberi gives another extraordinary gold to Italy at the European Championships in Rome in the high jump. After risking elimination at 2.29, the Olympic champion è bounced back in a big way, taking the victory by clearing the 2.33 mark. The Italian athlete, however, would not be satisfied and even recorded his best performance of the season by surpassing the measure of 2.37 on his first attempt.
The other two steps of the podium were occupied by Ukrainians Vladyslav Lavskyy (2.29 at the first) and Oleh Doroshchuk (2.26). Good performances also for Stefano Sottile and Manuel lardo, who finished in sixth place by jumping 2.22 at first.
For Tamberi this is his third continental gold, after Munich and Budapest. In addition, the 32-year-old from Civitanova will be called upon to defend the historic 2.37 clocked at the Tokyo Olympics in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
Thanks to the gold won by the blue athlete, Italy rises to 20 medals in these European championships in Rome.
