Jannik Sinner’s choice: “I’ll take Roger Federer.”
The new No. 1 is already thinking about Olympics and appointments on the grass
As of Monday, June 10, Sinner è officially the new No. 1 in tennis. An outstanding achievement that confirms, if ever there was a need, the South Tyrolean's exceptional talent. Sinner è became the 29° number 1 in tennis history since the computerized ranking has existed.
When asked who, among the previous No. 1s, inspired him the most, the Blue had no doubts: "I think all the No. 1s in the world had something special. Of course, for my age, for my generation, Roger Federer è definitely an important reference point. I grew up in his heyday, watched him all the time. I loved his style on and off the court, so I say Federer", his words in the interview with different media in Monte Carlo.
Sinner adds two more blue legends among the sportsmen who have inspired him the most: "Alberto Tomba, as I am also a former skier. But I was also inspired by Valentino Rossi. They are the two that come to mind, and not only for myself. There's another reason: they grew their sport, which is also our goal".
Then space for the next goals. First, there's the goal of winning the Olympics on the field where they've surrendered, in the semifinals, to Alcaraz. Then, the tournaments on grass: "Last year I struggled incredibly on the first date on grass", he admits. We will see if it'll be like that again this year. He'll be in action in Halle.
