Europeans, results

On the fifth morning of the European Championships in Rome, mission accomplished for Larissa Iapichino who goes straight into the long jump qualification. Just one jump is enough for the’azzurra to enter directly into the finals with 6.71 (-0.8) on her first entrance on the platform, one centimeter more than the required measure. Remarkable is the 7.03 upwind (-1.3) of German Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo and in all four athletes for the moment do better than the 21-year-old Florentine, European indoor silver medalist last season, but we start from scratch on Wednesday evening at 8.54 p.m.

Three of Italy’s relay teams pull out a ticket to the finals. Promoted is the men’s 4×100, fielded with an unprecedented lineup: Roberto Rigali, Matteo Melluzzo, Lorenzo Patta and European 110 hurdles champion Lorenzo Simonelli in 38.40, second place in the battery and with the second fastest overall time of the round. Also ahead were the two 4×400 meters: men with Brayan Lopez, Vladimir Aceti, Riccardo Meli and Edoardo Scotti taking the ‘Q’ capitals, second in 3:02.01 for the seventh overall time, and women with Ilaria Accame, Giancarla Trevisan, Rebecca Borga and Anna Polinari, fifth in the fastest battery in 3:25.28.

Instead, the women’s 4×100, bronze medalists in the Munich edition two years ago, goes out. After the forfeit in the warm-up of the individual bronze medalist of the 100 meters Zaynab Dosso due to a fatigue, replaced at the start by Irene Siragusa, in the second fraction Dalia Kaddari is held back by an injury and slows down noticeably in the last twenty meters, then the quartet with Anna Bongiorni and Arianna De Masi closes in 43.27, the first time of the excluded at twelve hundredths from qualification. Great anticipation tonight for the high jump final with Olympic, world and European champion Gianmarco Tamberi (along with Stefano Sottile and Manuel Lando) in front of President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, in the stands at the Olympic Stadium.
