Matteo Berrettini made it through the first round of the Stuttgart ATP 250 thanks to a three-set victory over Roman Safiullin, beaten after nearly three hours of battle. "I had no more energy after two months of not playing – he admitted at the end of the match – and I am very proud of the way I fought throughout the match".

" But not playing for so long I did not expect anything different,” added the Roman tennis player. “Staying there, being focused, having fun: even more than being back here I am happy to have won".

"I hope forò not to have to play again tomorrow. The physiotherapist worked to make sure that I could be in the best shape possible: the first è done, now we think about the second. I found so much support here: everyone stopping me, smiling at me, all very nice. Already; when I won here in 2019 the public was cheering for me" concluded the blue.

Berrettini boasts two titles on the German grass of the 'Boss Open': in 2019, the Roman beat Felix Auger Aliassime in the final (6-4 7-6), while in 2022 he will drop an encore against Andy Murray, defeated 6-4 5-7 6-3 in the final.
