Matteo Berrettini, leap in rankings: "I didn’t want to stop playing anymore…"

Matteo Berrettini after eliminating Roman Safiullin and Denis Shapovalov also overcame Australian James Duckworth on Friday, qualifying for the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart. The Roman tennis player completely found himself on the grass and won in two sets with a score of 6-4 7-5 in one and a half hours of play.In the ATP rankings, he jumped 21 places and is now ranked 74th.

After the match Berrettini è evidently satisfied: "I think it was a really solid match, especially on serve. I think I didn’t concede any break balls and I felt like I had a really good rhythm on serve. On the’grass è really important. At the right moments I put my feet on the court and played more aggressively".

Berrettini confessed his love for the grass: "On the’grass playing aggressive gives its fruits and è what I like to do. I also use the slice on the backhand side, and I think it is important to play well in the decisive moments, as well as to put pressure on the’opponent when è batting".

"When I put my feet on the grass courts I feel good and I would like to play for hours and hours, so I am here".
