ATP Halle: Matteo Berrettini advances, Luciano Darderi does not

Winning debut for Matteo Berrettini at the Halle ATP 500. The Roman tennis player, in fact, beat the U.S. Alex Michelsen, number 61 in the ATP ranking, in two sets with a final score of 7-6 6-2 after just over an hour and a half of play. The Italian thus flies to the second round where he will face another American: Marcos Giron, world number 53.

Berrettini starts badly and immediately goes under (0-3). The Roman però in the seventh game gets the counterbreak, equalizing the score in the next game (4-4). It thus comes to the tie-break, which smiles on the Italian (7-5). In the second set, the balance lasted until 2-2: here Berrettini placed a partial of four consecutive games that earned him the set and the match.

Luciano Darderi did not make it instead. The Italian-Argentine surrendered to German Jan-Lennard Struff, No. 41 in the ATP rankings, who won 6-7 7-5 7-6 after more than two and a half hours of play. Many regrets for the Italian-Argentine who was ahead by a break in the third and decisive set and also had a match point at the tie-break.

In the first set è the serve was the dominant factor until the tie-break, dominated by Darderi (7-2). Same script in the second partial until the twelfth game when the blue concedes a dangerous set point that Struff does not let slip away. Everything happens in the third set: Darderi rises ahead by a break (3-2) but is immediately recovered (3-3); then on 4-5 the Villa Gesell native saves three match points. It comes down to the tie-break again, this time won by the German 12-10 on the tenth match point.
