The Pistons are coming off their worst season ever (14-68)

.

Only a year ago, Detroit announced, with pomp and circumstance, the agreement with Monty Williams. An NBA finalist at the helm of the Phoenix Suns (2021/22), è he was put under contract for as many as six seasons for a total of a whopping $78 million. In short, è he was chosen to rebuild the Pistons and bring them back to the top of the NBA.

Well, after only one season, Monty Williams è was fired. Coming off a horrible year that è earned the worst record ever in franchise history (14-68 record), Monty Williams è was relieved of his duties by Trajan Langdon, the Pistons new president. It should be remembered that the relieved coach had an excellent relationship with senior executive Troy Weaver, who was also removed from Detroit.

A heavy decision, not least becauseè Monty Williams can count on a guaranteed contract for the next five years worth $65 million total. Little matter, the Detroit board has made its choice. It wants to focus on a new coach and does not believe Monty Williams is the right person for the square.

At this point, there's curiosity about who will take Monty Williams's place on the Pistons bench. Right now, the most popular name would be James Borrego, former head coach of Charlotte, who is also in the running for the Los Angeles Lakers bench.
