Luciano Darderi beats Pedro Martinez
Two Italian tennis players qualified for the round of 16 of the ATP 250 in Mallorca: after Fabio Fognini, who beat Gijs Brouwer, Luciano Darderi, number 37 in the world rankings, also advanced, getting the better of the Spaniard Pedro Martinez, No. 48 ATP, with a double 7-5 in one hour and fifty-nine minutes of play.
Good start by Darderi, who won a break and immediately took a 3-1 lead, but Martinez è reaction was vehement and, thanks to a counterbreak that rebalanced the situation, it came down to 5-5: to close the first game fraction Darderi placed a partial of two games to zero snatching service for the 7-5 after fifty-eight minutes of the match.
The second set è balanced until 4-4, then Martinez wins a game on Darderi's serve: the latter però reacts immediately with the counterbreak recreating, in fact, the situation of the final phase of the previous set. Again, it ends 7-5 with Darderi winning the decisive game on his opponent's serve, closing the match.
For Darderi è the first victory on the grass this season, a success that comes at the second attempt: in the previous one, in the first round of the Halle tournament, the Argentine-born 2002 tennis player had in fact been defeated by Jan-Lennard Struff, who in turn would stop, in the quarters, against an Italian, Jannik Sinner.
