Euro 2024, England powder keg: Southgate takes it
Fans lashed out at the British technician
By drawing the match against Slovenia (0-0), England won Group C and qualified, as first, for the round of 16 of Euro 2024. At the end of the challenge with the Slovenians, Southgate and the players went toward their fans to celebrate but the reaction was not what they expected.
As reported by the Daily Mirror, the fans present began throwing glasses of beer and insulting the team, especially coach Southgate, who was pointed out as the number one person responsible for the anonymous performance offered by the English lions in these first three matches of the European Championships.
"I have not seen any other team qualify and receive such a reaction. I am definitely proud of my players for the way they kept their composure in the match, even when facing a really challenging surrounding", the words of Southgate himself, who was surprised by the reaction of the English fans.
The Sun highlighted the many "experiments" failures by the England coach. They do not like the game offered and the attitude on the field. Southgate is seen as the absolute culprit of this whole situation: "A difficult environment is being created in which to do one’s job", the quip from the English coach himself who, barring any twists and turns, will leave the Three Lions’ bench at the end of Euro 2024.
