F1, Gp Austria: dominant pole for Max Verstappen. Error in the final for Charles Leclerc
Max Verstappen also dominates qualifying in Austria
Formula 1 Saturday at Spielberg closes again in the sign of Max Verstappen. After making the Sprint Race his own, in fact, the Red Bull Dutchman also took pole position for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix, with an impressive best time of 1:04.314. Next to him, on the front row, will be Lando Norris (McLaren).
Third position for George Russell in a Mercedes, while from the fourth box on the grid will start; Carlos Sainz, first of the two Ferraristi. The other Rossa driver, Charles Leclerc, started sixth behind Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), although a mistake on his last flying lap set off alarm bells in the Ferrari box: the driver himself said over the radio that he feared he had damaged the No. 16 car.
Closing out the Top 10 are Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Sergio Perez (Red Bull), Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) and Esteban Ocon (Alpine). They were eliminated after Q2, and will therefore start from 11th to 15th place, Daniel Ricciardo (RB), Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Pierre Gasly (Alpine) and Yuki Tsunoda (RB).
On the other hand, Alexander Albon (Williams), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Valtteri Bottas (Kick Sauber), Logan Sargeant (Williams) and Guanyu Zhou (Kick Sauber) did not make it past Q3 and will start from sixteenth to twentieth on Sunday’s grid.
