Golden opportunity for Jonathan Milan
European Road Cycling Championships kick off
It starts from Wednesday, Sept. 11, the 2024 edition of the European Road Cycling Championships, which this year runs until Sept. 15 in Belgian Limburg, and anticipates by about a week the start of the World Championships, which instead will kick off in Zurich, Switzerland, from Sept. 21 to 29.
Italy has its sights set on the men's and women's lite races: in the former, in particular, eyes will be on Jonathan Milan, who is showing exceptional form (11 races won this season, five of them in the last month) and has been summoned by coach Daniele Bennati along with Edoardo Affini, Davide Ballerini, Mattia Cattaneo, Simone Consonni, Mirco Maestri, Jacopo Mosca and Matteo Trentin.
For them, the appointment è for Sunday, September 15: the course, 222.8 kilometers long, presents difficulties such as the walls of Kolmontberg and Zammelenberg, as well as pavé stretches that will have to be approached with great care, and è suitable for sprinters capable of withstanding undulating stretches, just as Milan has shown it can do this year.
As for the women’s race, coach Paolo Sangalli has summoned Elisa Balsamo, Rachele Barbieri, Elena Cecchini, Maria Giulia Confalonieri, Chiara Consonni, Barbara Guarischi, Vittoria Guazzini and Gaia Masetti. The women’s élite test takes place on the same roads as the men’s, with a course 162 kilometers long.
