Tour of The Alps, start in the sign of Giulio Ciccone

The Tour of The Alps has in Giulio Ciccone the first master of the 2025’edition. In fact, the Lidl-Trek climber won the first stage of the race known until a few years ago as the Giro del Trentino, finishing ahead of everyone at the finish line in San Lorenzo Dorsino, after 148.5 km of a course that began in the same town in the province of Trento.
Ciccone finished ahead of Austrian Felix Gall and Frenchman Paul Seixas, both of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. The other five riders who finished with the same time as the winner, and placed between fourth and eighth, were Romain Bardet (Team Picnic PostNL), Florian Stork (Tudor Pro Cycling Team), Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Michael Storer (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and Max Poole (Team Picnic PostNL).
The race was anticipated by the winner.
The race was preceded by a minute of silence to honor the memory of Pope Francis, who passed away Monday morning at the age of 88, after nearly 12 years as pontiff. The moment of recollection will be replicated at the start of each of the other four stages of the race, which will see its finish on Friday, April 25, in Austria, in Linz.
Leader of the race thanks to his success in the first stage, Giulio Ciccone is aiming to be the first Italian to win the Tour of The Alps since the event took its current name. The last Bel Paese athlete to inscribe his name on the roll of honor was Vincenzo Nibali, in 2013, when the race was still called Giro del Trentino.
