Roma has finally dissolved all reservations and officially welcomed Gian Piero Gasperini as the Giallorossi’s new coach. After weeks of speculation, negotiations and anticipation, the former Atalanta coach has signed a contract that will bind him to the capital club until 2028, thus sanctioning the’beginning of a new era in the shadow of the Colosseum.

Gasperini’s move to Roma marks a crucial moment for the Capitoline club. The coach from Piedmont, who has just returned from an extraordinary cycle with Atalanta – a club with which he achieved historic results both in Serie A and in Europe – arrives in the capital with the aim of revitalizing a Roma team that has been coming back from fluctuating seasons, but is full of potential.

It was not an immediate path: before the official signing, Gasperini had to free himself from the contract that bound him to the Bergamo club. In the meantime, he began to make contact with the Roma environment. His informal meetings with some players – including Pellegrini and El Shaarawy – during Gianluca Scamacca’s wedding, and his visit to Trigoria accompanied by Claudio Ranieri and sporting director Florent Ghisolfi are emblematic.

The club has set July 10 as the start of the summer training camp, the first concrete step toward building the Gasperini-branded Roma. A date circled in red to begin shaping a group that will have to interpret the new coach’s ideas of soccer: high pressing, vertical play, intensity and enhancement of talent.

The club’s official statement stresses confidence and ambition: “Gasperini’s career so far has been characterized by innovative tactics, a culture of work and an extraordinary ability to enhance players. The Ownership and Claudio Ranieri are convinced that he is the right man for the job”.
