Red Bull, Helmut Marko returns on Christian Horner's farewell and reveals a backstory

On the eve of the’last race weekend in Formula 1 before the summer break, Helmut Marko returned to speak, at the microphones of ‘Sky Deutschland’ about Christian Horner’s dismissal this season, revealing that the decision came directly from the’managing director for corporate projects and new investments of the Red Bull Group, former middle distance runner Oliver Mintzlaff.
“He’made the decision,–explained Marko, a special adviser to the team that has won 8 drivers’ titles and 6 constructors’ titles in F1.
We then spoke directly with Christian after Silverstone, meeting in London. We thanked him for the many successes, but the reason for the farewell is related to the not good performance in recent times”.
In Horner’s place, Frenchman Laurent Mekies, who was in fact promoted from the Racing Bulls, has already made his debut at the Red Bull wall. Mekies is a veteran of Formula 1, having served since 2001 in various roles at Arrows, Minardi, Toro Rosso, and Ferrari: at Maranello, in particular, he remained from 2018 to 2023, as deputy team principal and sporting director.
The Frenchman is a veteran of Formula 1.
Born in 1973, Christian Horner was a fairly good driver in the 1990s, even coming to compete in international Formula 3000. At the age of 25, however, he chose to pursue racing from the pit wall and was among the most recognizable faces in the Red Bull universe from the team’s entry into F1 in 2005 until his dismissal 20 years later.
