The start of the Formula 1 World Championship is imminent and engines are about to start roaring in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix.

There are many regulatory changes but there is no shortage of calendar changes either. Six sprint races, including three new ones, will be part of the menu for the 2026 season.

As in 2025, six sprints will be on the schedule this year but only two will be staged on the same tracks as last year. Three will be held for the first time: in Zandvoort (Netherlands), Singapore and Montréal (Canada). They join the events in Miami (United States), Shanghai (China) and Silverstone (Great Britain).
Miami and Shanghai are confirmed for the second consecutive year, while Silverstone returns to host a sprint after a five-year absence: it was at the British circuit that the first sprint race in Formula 1 history was held in 2021. It was won by Max Verstappen, who crossed the finish line first ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, thus taking pole position for Sunday’s Grand Prix.

The organization is planning to further expand this format in the coming seasons. For 2026 it was preferred not to burden the calendar, which is already marked by major regulatory changes. From 2027, however, consideration is being given to doubling the number of sprints.

In 2026 the sprint calendar will open on March 14 in Shanghai, China. The second event will be on May 2 in Miami, USA, followed on May 23 by the stage in Montréal, Canada.
After the early summer break, they will return to the track on July 4 in Silverstone, Britain. The fifth Sprint of the year is scheduled for Aug. 22 in Zandvoort, the Netherlands, while the final round of the short format will be run on Oct. 10 in Singapore.
