The incredible supremacy of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is continuing unabated: the two are sharing all the major titles for the past two years and major comparisons are beginning to be made with the Big 3, namely Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Making waves in recent days on social media were the words of U.S. legend John McEnroe regarding the level of the two young phenoms on clay, prompting him to say that the two could probably both beat Rafael Nadal at the highest level.

“If you watch them play to their full potential right now, I’m referring to Sinner and Alcaraz against Nadal on clay, you could seriously argue that both of them would be favorites to beat Nadal when he’s at his best,” McEnroe told TNT Sports on the sidelines of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000.

“These two guys right now are like when you look at the NBA and say nobody can ever be better than Michael Jordan. The level of tennis right now is higher than I’ve ever seen,” McEnroe continued. However, the former outfielder’s statement drew much criticism, with many accusing him of underestimating the incredible dominance Nadal has imposed on clay in years past.

At Mt. Rafael Nadal has won 11 career titles, including eight consecutive. On clay he has a 90.5 percent record of winning matches, and holds the record for the longest consecutive winning streak on a single surface in the Open Era: 81 consecutive, achieved between 2005 and 2007. Sinner beat Alcaraz in two sets in the final in Monte Carlo, capturing his first major title on clay. The Blue, back as world number one, now sets his sights on Roland Garros, the last Slam still missing from his prestigious collection.
