He took a few days of well-deserved rest after winning in Monte Carlo but, in the end, he couldn’t resist: he will also be there at the Madrid Masters 1000, scheduled for April 22 to May 3. They are breathing a sigh of relief for the organizers who, after the forfeits of Carlos Alcaraz (wrist problem) and Novak Djokovic (in search of better physical condition) will at least be able to see the world number 1 in action.

There are many reasons that convinced the Italian to say yes. First and foremost, he could become the first tennis player to win five Masters 1000s in a row (he won, in sequence, Paris-Bercy, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo). A record that would make him even more of a legend than he already is. Moreover, already certain to remain No. 1 in the world at least until Rome, he could play “with serenity.”

As if that were not enough, his main rival, namely the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, is in the pits due to injury; therefore, there will be no new face-off on the court. Then there is also an enviable physical condition to consider. Although he is playing a lot, Jannik Sinner is getting important responses from his physique.

After winning seven of the nine Masters 1000s on the circuit, he is going after the title in Madrid (which is missing from his palmares) and then, who knows, closing the loop at the Rome Internationals, the other 1000 he has not yet lifted to the sky. In short, Jannik Sinner has no intention of resting, quite the contrary…
