Winning the second stage of the Tour of The Alps 2026, 147.5 kilometers from Telfs to Val Martello (thus passing from Austrian to Italian territory), Giulio Pellizzari gave himself a success that is worth double: the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rider, in fact, stood on the podium not only to receive the stage winner’s prize, but also to wear the green jersey, the symbol of the supremacy.

“Today’s victory is special,” Pellizzari told the organization’s microphones at the end of the stage: the Tour of the Alps launched me into professionalism three years ago, and winning in Val Martello has a unique meaning for me. Today I gave more than what I had in my legs, also to concretize the work of my teammates, who were extraordinary.”

“In Tenerife, in the past weeks, I worked on explosiveness together with Jay Hindley and the results are showing – he added -. Long climbs are my ideal terrain: I found myself well, even if I’m not yet in top condition. Once I got back on Arensman, Finn and Storer, I tried to counterattack, because Finn was going strong and could be a viable option if they caught me. It was a tough day, but I’m glad it went in the best way.”

Pellizzari then wanted to make an emotional dedication for the success to Stefano Casagranda, his girlfriend’s dad and former pro, who passed away last October. “Near here, in Merano, he won a stage of the Giro del Trentino in 1998, when I was not yet born. This victory is for him,” said Pellizzari speaking of Casagranda, who was among other things president of Veloce Club Borgo, one of the youth clubs that most characterized cycling in Trentino in recent decades.
