Milan market, Allegri cuts a player: future already written

The marriage between Niclas Füllkrug and soccer outside the borders of Germany seems to have reached the end credits just a year and a half after he landed in London. Having arrived at West Ham in the summer of 2024 for £27 million, the German striker has never been able to translate his physicality into heavy goals in the Premier League. The downward parabola was accentuated with his January loan to AC Milan: in the Rossoneri, the 33-year-old was supposed to guarantee experience and goals for the end of the season, but the balance sheet so far is pitiless, with only one goal scored and often opaque performances.
In Via Aldo Rossi, the decision seems to be made: AC Milan will not exercise the right of redemption. The Rossoneri management has assessed the cost-benefit ratio as insufficient, preferring to focus on younger, more mobile profiles for the upcoming summer soccer market. Without confirmation in Italy, Füllkrug finds himself in a complicated situation, aware that his return to the London Stadium will only be a passing one. West Ham, in fact, has already put the player at the door, categorically excluding him from the technical plans for the future.
The real obstacle for the English club is economic. With an armored contract until 2028 and a top player’s salary (about 5.5 million euros per season), Füllkrug today represents a financial ballast that is difficult to place. The Hammers, in order to get rid of the onerous salary, would even resign themselves to a cheap transfer, giving up any claim on the player’s name tag in order to save on the remaining years of salary.
The only lifeline for the center forward seems to be a return to his homeland. According to the latest rumors gathered by ‘Sky Sport Deutschland,’ Wolfsburg is ready to do everything possible to bring him back to the Bundesliga. In the German league, where Füllkrug has built his reputation, the player hopes to regain his feeling for goal and the continuity that has faded too quickly abroad. For Wolfsburg, this would be anideal transaction to revive a veteran who still has a desire to prove his worth.
