Virus in Madrid, (bizarre) cause found: Jannik Sinner has his say

Already several tennis players have been affected by a stomach virus that has been circulating at the Madrid Masters 1000 for several days. Among the infected champions are Marin Cilic, Iga Swiatek, and even Coco Gauff, who vomited during her match against Sorana Cirstea.
Some are speculating gastroenteritis, but in the last few hours it was Tennis Channel legend Jim Courier who pinpointed the possible cause: shrimp tacos served at the players’ cafeteria allegedly triggered the food poisoning.
There are at least six tennis players affected, and many are suggesting avoiding any contact and not even shaking hands and staying as little time as possible in the locker room to prevent the virus from spreading.
Jannik Sinner was not particularly concerned at the press conference, “Honestly, I don’t spend much time here. It’s true that the Masters 1000s are longer now, but on training days, I just come to train and then leave. It’s like that in all the tournaments. I don’t know if it’s something that circulates in general, but this kind of thing can happen when someone gets sick. We are always very close to each other, in the locker room, and then we move on, so it can happen,” are the words reported by Punto de break.
The Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine, interviewed by Marca, explained that most cases resolve “without complications within a few days (2 or 3). They are generally caused by different types of viruses or bacteria, although they can also be due to parasites, drugs, or toxins. In most cases it is an infectious disease, transmitted from person to person or, more commonly, through ingestion of contaminated water or food.”
