Scudetto Inter, Paolo Bonolis rages: "What a bad life"

Paolo Bonolis, a well-known VIP Inter fan, celebrated the Nerazzurri Scudetto in an interview with La Repubblica: “I believed in Chivu from the very beginning. I had met him in person on the long car ride back from Istanbul together with Zanetti after the final with City. Above all, a good person. Second, choosing a young man like him was born of a specific choice. Someone with his background, soccer he knows for sure. And we needed someone who had great credibility in recovering the relationship with the players. It worked, it really did. And it was not easy.”

The popular TV host then commented on the Bastoni case: “The problem was created by the outside world. By the bestiality of the doggedness that was unleashed on a boy who did something wrong that, sooner or later, everyone does wrong. If it had happened to a player on another team maybe I would have demolished him with sarcasm and mockery: but the pure hatred that was poured out on him is neither in heaven nor on earth. Right down to the definite feeling that, if he agrees, it’s probably best to give him up. It would make everyone happy. But I insist, it’s a preposterous story.”

Bonolis then made a slight reference to extra-football cases: “When you don’t win, the temptation of die Samson with the Philistines becomes irresistible. Many people are banking on it, certain media need well poisoners, the latter wallow in it. I feel sorry for them. It’s clear that they live badly, it must be a bad life, look.”

Celebrating the title, won three days in advance at the triple whistle of Inter-Parma, was of course also captain Lautaro Martinez, in his third Scudetto experience in the Nerazzurri: “There is a lot of satisfaction, it was not easy to restart, also for how we ended the World Cup. The coach and the group made the difference. Last year for one point we didn’t make it, soon we have another final and a Cup that we are missing.” The Argentine striker then paid explicit recognition to Chivu’s work: “He has given new air and a lot of freedom, he is bringing forward an idea of modern soccer. Cristian has helped us a lot and so has he.”

On Bastoni’s future, meanwhile, Nerazzurri president Beppe Marotta, speaking on Radio Anch’Io Sport on Radio1 the day after winning the 21st Scudetto, shed some light directly. “Bastoni is a talent, he was unlucky in certain episodes and events he had. He was the protagonist of a naivety and the first one to notice it was him, we helped him because when a young man makes mistakes it is right to correct him. He is a great champion, there are the eyes of big clubs on him and I do not hide that of Barcelona. But it is an unofficial and not concrete interest, he is our player and he wants to stay. We are happy.” Words that seem to close, at least for now, any speculation about the defender’s future.
