Jannik Sinner thinks even bigger and aims for Bjorn Borg’s super record

There was a time when Bjorn Borg was simply unplayable. Nicknamed Ice Man, the Swede, winner of no fewer than 11 Grand Slam titles, holds the record for the longest winning streak: an impressive 49, won in the magical 1978 (the year he won Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open).

Well, Jannik Sinner, should he continue to shine as he is doing at the moment, might even be thinking of dethroning Bjorn Borg. At the moment, the world No. 1 is at 29 wins in a row, which is securing him the 19th All-Time position (along with Rod Laver, Ivan Lendl and the usual Novak Djokovic).

The Italian is now expected at Roland Garros where, at least on paper, he is among the favorites. In short, his streak could lengthen. To break into the Top 10, he needs to reach 35, a goal certainly within Jannik Sinner’s reach.

Jannik Sinner began his “winning run” on March 7, the day of his debut in Indian Wells, and he doesn’t seem intent on stopping. Bjorn Borg’s record is 20 wins away. Impossible? Not for someone like Jannik Sinner, the man who is changing the rules of modern tennis. Fun fact: The only one to have undermined the Swedish Bear’s record was Novak Djokovic in 2010/11 with 43 wins in a row (fifth overall).
