Flavio Cobolli continues his Roland Garros dream: the Azzurro eliminated the American Svajda, qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Paris Slam for the first time. Despite a few thrills due to emotion, the Italian tennis player managed to win and is now one step away from the Top 10 of the ATP ranking.

“Sometimes it is not easy to close a match, especially when you are ahead in the score as I was today,” he confessed. “I was a bit nervous in closing the match. As I said, this tournament means a lot to me. I think Zachary played a really great match after the second set, and that’s the way tennis is. It’s a special sport for that very reason. In the end I was happy, and that’s the most important thing.”

During the match, Cobolli was applauded for a nice gesture: during an exchange Svajda fell and the Roman helped him clean himself with a towel and medicate himself with some water. When the difficulties came, Cobolli tried to “stay positive. I was starting to get a little nervous, even along with my team. So I tried to play my tennis, to hit the ball as aggressively as I could, and I took my time between points. I also had a little less energy than in the first three sets.”

Cobolli wants to face the next opponent with a clear mind: “I will face the next match as always. I just want to enjoy the tournament. I want to enjoy the match. It is an incredible honor to play on the Chatrier. It is a dream come true for me and I want to keep living this dream as long as possible.”
