OKC’s run to a second consecutive NBA ring stalled in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. Wembanyama’s Spurs took the pass to the NBA Finals. For Gilgeous-Alexander, regular season MVP and OKC’s leader, it was hard to accept defeat.

“I failed my goal. I didn’t achieve what I wanted. But I learn more about myself and make the most progress in my career when I fail and don’t get what I want. I don’t see anything different in this situation. I didn’t get where I wanted to be this season. There is a reason for that. Now I have to analyze that reason and try to make sure it never happens again,” his words reported by ESPN.

In the series against San Antonio, the MVP finished with an average of 25.9 points per game, with 40.9 percent shooting from the field and 28.6 percent from three-point range. Remarkable numbers, not for someone used to dominating games.

“There’s a guy on their defensive line who’s a little bit different,” Gilgeous-Alexander added about Wembanyama. “They channel everything on him … It’s a really strong defense. However, it’s not impossible to score. I just think it’s very different with him on the field.”
