NHL: The Carolina Hurricanes Win the Stanley Cup; The Vegas Golden Knights Are Defeated
The Hurricanes won the 2026 Stanley Cup. Carolina, by winning Game 6 (final score 3-0), closed out the series against the Vegas Golden Knights with a 4-2 victory, celebrating a success that was built game by game.
The Stanley Cup thus goes to the Hurricanes, led by coach Rod Brind’Amour, who also guided Carolina to the title back in 2006.
“It’s incredible. It’s something I’ve been chasing since we won our first Stanley Cup. You want to win it again and again. What a thrill, what a battle. The guys gave it their all today, my goodness. So many individual efforts just to keep the puck out of our net. It was an incredible experience. I’m really proud of these guys,” the words, reported by ESPN, of Jordan Staal, who received the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
At 37, Jordan Staal—the oldest player ever to win the MVP title—has thus entered the annals of legend. After winning the NHL’s top trophy in 2009 with Pittsburgh, he returns to success by scoring in each of the first five games of the Cup Final, a feat never before achieved by any NHL player.
