Two base jumpers died in a tragic accident in Utah

A tragic accident in the Moab Desert in Utah (United States) claimed the lives of two people during a tandem base jump. Among the victims is the well-known 39-year-old athlete Andy Lewis, a prominent figure in the local community and co-owner of a company specializing in extreme sports that organizes excursions, skydiving, and acrobatics in the area’s canyons.
A 68-year-old tourist, Danny Joe Kregle, also lost his life alongside Lewis; he was attached to Lewis for the tandem jump, as confirmed by the agency’s social media channels.
Lewis was an accomplished athlete: an expert in aerial disciplines, he was a true legend of slacklining and tricklining—disciplines that blend classic tightrope walking with extreme acrobatics at heart-stopping heights. His agency was famous precisely for this type of experience, showcasing breathtaking jumps from Utah’s rock faces in its promotional videos.
The international public first got to know him in 2012, when he went from obscurity to the global spotlight thanks to an iconic performance during the Super Bowl halftime show: on that occasion, dressed in a toga, Lewis stole the show by bouncing and performing acrobatic moves on a very thin rope right next to Madonna.
