Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon: The tennis guru is blunt

Jannik Sinner remains the clear favorite at Wimbledon, according to world-renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The Italian, who is about to arrive in England where he will train for the next 10 days ahead of the season’s third Grand Slam, will be the man to beat in London as well. “With Alcaraz out, Sinner is the clear favorite for Wimbledon. I think the level at which he’s playing right now is clearly superior to that of the others.”

Behind the South Tyrolean player are Djokovic and Zverev: “Djokovic has a slight additional advantage: grass is probably his best surface. There are fewer long rallies compared to clay, and there are more opportunities to close out the point quickly. I’d say Zverev also has a slight edge now, given that he won Roland Garros.”

Mouratoglou believes that the loss at Roland Garros won’t affect Sinner: “I don’t think what happened at Roland Garros will affect Jannik Sinner’s performance or confidence. Look at what he’s accomplished since January: the number of consecutive matches he’s won at the Masters 1000 tournaments is impressive. That’s why he’ll be the clear favorite. Being the defending champion always brings extra pressure, but I think Jannik is now used to handling that kind of pressure. He’s the clear favorite, and I believe he’s the player best positioned to win the title.”

To better understand what happened in Paris, Sinner’s medical team has launched a series of in-depth investigations. Among the tools used is a sensor attached to his left arm for continuous blood glucose monitoring—the same device commonly used by people with diabetes—which, in the case of the world No. 1, serves exclusively to track energy levels during physical exertion. The tests conducted so far have not revealed any medical issues: the doctors simply want to optimize the management of the South Tyrolean’s physical resources in preparation for his most demanding matches.
