Marco Baroni is the new head coach of Hellas Verona, which was relegated to Serie B last season and is among the top contenders for an immediate return to the top flight. The club announced the news on the afternoon of Friday, June 19, in a press release on its official website. He will officially take over on July 1, 2026, under a contract running through June 30, 2028, with an option to extend through 2029.

Born in Florence on September 11, 1963, coach Marco Baroni returns to the Hellas Verona bench following his stint during the 2023–24 season, which ended with the team avoiding relegation from Serie A and finishing in 13th place in the standings. He had previously been part of the Gialloblù staff during the 2002–03 Serie B season, serving as Alberto Malesani’s assistant coach.

As a player, Baroni wore the Gialloblù jersey from 1995 to 1998, making 93 appearances and scoring 9 goals across Serie A, Serie B, and the Coppa Italia. During his coaching career, he has secured two promotions to Serie A—with Benevento in the 2016–17 season and with Lecce in 2021–22. In the top flight, he has also guided both Lecce and Hellas Verona to avoid relegation. “Hellas Verona FC extends a warm welcome to Coach Marco Baroni and all members of his staff, wishing them the best of luck,” the club’s statement read.

Torino, from which Baroni had been dismissed during the previous season, had announced the mutual termination of his contract with the club—which was set to run through 2027 (with a salary of approximately one million euros)—effectively freeing him to join Verona.
