In the end, Semaj Christon accepted Pallacanestro Cantù’s offer: The 33-year-old from Cincinnati, whom APU Udine tried to retain on its roster until the very last moment, has chosen to move to Brianza to play under Frank Vitucci, thus continuing his journey in Italy’s top league in the blue-and-white jersey. The signing was made official on Saturday, along with a statement from general manager Simone Giofrè.

“Semaj is a player whose pedigree speaks for itself,” said the executive, who arrived in Cantù in mid-May. “In addition to the technical skills everyone is familiar with, we were impressed by his great enthusiasm regarding our interest and his desire to play for Cantù. We’re confident he’ll make a significant contribution to the new team that’s beginning to take shape.”

Born in 1992, Semaj Christon graduated from Xavier University, where he played in the NCAA tournament before being selected in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat with the 55th overall pick. After a couple of trades that took him first to Charlotte and then to Oklahoma City, he spent the 2014–2015 season with the Thunder’s G-League affiliate, opting to move to Italy the following year.

In Italy, Christon played for Pesaro, Tortona, Brescia, Pistoia, Vanoli Cremona, and Udine, with several stints in other countries along the way, including China, Puerto Rico, Israel, France, Spain, Turkey, and Germany. His list of achievements includes an ACB League title, won with Saski Baskonia during the 2019–2020 season.
