Between today and tomorrow, the Basketball Champions League is expected to officially announce the list of teams admitted to the next edition—a competition for which Germani Brescia submitted its application within the final deadline. Having secured second place at the end of the regular season, the Lombardy-based club is expected to have a fast track to admission.

However, the main focus is on the rumors circulating around the story. The most persistent rumor—which remains to be verified and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt—is reported by the daily newspaper BresciaOggi: the blue-and-white club reportedly indicated Rome’s PalaEur as its home arena in the documentation submitted to the competition.

This detail inevitably brings to mind the name of Paul Matiasic, the controversial owner of Trieste, who has been working for months to establish a second basketball team in the capital through the acquisition and transfer of a Serie A franchise. This project runs parallel to the one that Luka Doncic will officially present on Thursday in Rome.

The new Roman club was formed by acquiring the franchise of the now-defunct Cremona, but it is still searching for a suitable venue to host EuroCup games, a tournament in which it will participate next season. Matiasic, on the other hand, despite not yet holding a Serie A franchise, has already taken steps by securing an option on the PalaEur and acquiring the Stella Azzurra youth academy. These developments further fuel speculation surrounding the possible involvement of the Roman arena in Brescia’s future plans.
