The wrestling world mourns Zsanett Németh, who died at age 32

The wrestling world is in mourning following the death of Zsanett Németh at just 32 years old. The champion died in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and local authorities are investigating to determine the circumstances of the tragic incident.

The Bulgarian Olympic Committee confirmed Zsanett Németh’s death in an official statement: “We were deeply shocked to learn of the tragic and sudden passing in Bulgaria of Zsanett Németh, an Olympic athlete and former silver and bronze medalist at the European Championships.”

“Born on January 21, 1994, in Veszprém, Zsanett Németh competed for the clubs of Veszprém, Csepel, and Újpest throughout her career. Among the most significant achievements of her competitive career were her participation in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore (where she finished in seventh place), the 2015 European Games, the 2019 World Beach Games (where she won the silver medal), and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where she finished in tenth place.”

“In 2017, she finished as European runner-up in Novi Sad, winning the silver medal, while in 2019 she won bronze at the Continental Championships in Bucharest. In 2023, the athlete had expressed her desire to continue her international career competing under the Bulgarian flag.”

“The Hungarian Olympic Committee stands with the family and the entire wrestling community, expressing its most sincere condolences,” the statement concludes.
