Cagliari Transfer Market: The Rossoblù Beat Out Palermo for the Roma Talent

Cagliari has secured Alessandro Romano’s consent and has already reached a preliminary agreement with Roma regarding the young midfielder’s transfer. Born in 2006, he has long been on the Rossoblù club’s radar; they have been following him with interest for at least two seasons, and now the deal appears to be very close to completion.
Today, the parties will finalize the last details of the agreement, particularly bonuses and incentives related to the transfer. The deal is expected to close at a total fee of approximately 6 million euros.
In recent weeks, Palermo—which is working to build a team capable of promotion—had also made a strong push for the player, but the player’s desire to continue his career in Serie A proved decisive in the final decision.
Romano, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Spezia, had been targeted by several clubs. Torino had also set their sights on him; the Granata had already attempted to sign him a year ago and had returned to the fray in recent weeks as part of a broader interest in several players leaving Roma. However, the competition did not deter Cagliari, which acted early and decisively.
The deal is part of a particularly busy summer transfer window for the Sardinian club. Michael Folorunsho’s departure had made signing a new midfielder a priority for head coach Fabio Pisacane, and president Tommaso Giulini had already made it clear he was ready to make a significant investment to close the deal quickly. Initially, the main target was Michel Aebischer, a Swiss midfielder coming off a strong season with Pisa, but the presence of a hefty buyout clause had complicated plans, thus definitively paving the way for Romano’s signing.
