Jannik Sinner; Paolo Bertolucci blurts out: “I expect a parliamentary inquiry”

Paolo Bertolucci commented with some irritation on the latest controversy to erupt on social media regarding Jannik Sinner. Many fans are taking aim at the Wimbledon organizers’ surprise decision to move the Italian player from Center Court to Court 1. This move has outraged several fans, who have called it a lack of respect for the world No. 1 and current title holder.
The former Italian tennis player dismissed the controversy: “All the top players have to move to Court 1 at least once. It happens at every Grand Slam. Don’t create problems where there aren’t any,” the current Sky commentator wrote on X. “Today, Zverev played on Court 1 and Berrettini on Center Court. So… any controversy in Germany?” “I expect a parliamentary inquiry to protest against the Wimbledon organizers for daring to schedule Sinner’s match today on Court 1…,” Bertolucci continued ironically.
According to many insiders, it may have been Sinner himself who asked to be moved to Court 1 in the second slot, precisely to avoid an evening match. A theory that Bertolucci seems to endorse: “He prefers not to play in the evening. Get that through your heads! It’s 25 degrees in London.”.
On Court 1, therefore, Sinner will face Jenson Brooksby in the third round of the London tournament, with the match set to begin no earlier than 3:10 p.m. Meanwhile, in a surprise matchup, Felix Auger-Aliassime and American Michael Zheng—who came through qualifying—will play on Center Court. The only previous meeting between Sinner and Brooksby dates back to 2021 in Washington, when the South Tyrolean won 7-6(2), 6-1; however, both players are completely different from what they were back then. Sinner’s run at Wimbledon so far has been marked by two hard-fought victories: in his opening match against Kecmanovic, whom he defeated in five sets after a complicated match and a nasty fall, and then against Borges, whom he beat in three sets.
