An incredible offer for Tyrus McGee

Second consecutive promotion and second straight departure for Tyrus McGee. After once again achieving his goal of moving up a division, the American guard is ready to embark on a new adventure, this time with a significant financial opportunity.

During the 2025–26 Serie A2 season, the 1991-born player averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 45 games, shooting 44.4% from three-point range and 83.9% from the free-throw line. This performance followed the promotion he earned the previous year with Pallacanestro Cantù.

McGee is reportedly set to sign with a club in Taiwan, where he will earn a salary of approximately $500,000. The former Venezia player, with whom he won the league title in 2017, thus adds another chapter to a career rich in experiences across Spain, France, Turkey, Israel, and Italy, where in recent years he has celebrated two consecutive promotions with Cantù and Scaligera Verona.

It’s a familiar story, then, for the guard from Stringtown, Oklahoma: in the summer of 2025 as well, after leading Pallacanestro Cantù to promotion to Serie A, McGee left the Brianza-based club to join Verona, where he then repeated the feat. He’s a player who seems to have it in his DNA to achieve his goal and then move on, leaving an indelible mark each time on the teams that have hosted him.

His time with Cantù was not without obstacles: during the 2024–25 season, McGee had to deal with two muscle injuries to his right thigh, which sidelined him for a total of over two months. The first setback, in October, was caused by a biceps femoris injury that sidelined him for about five weeks; the second, in December, involved the semimembranosus muscle, with an estimated recovery time of three weeks. Despite these physical challenges, he managed to carve out a leading role at the decisive moment, finishing the playoffs with an average of 13.9 points over 11 games and playing a pivotal role in the Lombardy team’s promotion run.

McGee’s list of achievements attests to his ability to excel in the most competitive settings season after season: in addition to the league title with Reyer Venezia in 2016–17, the 35-year-old American can also boast the FIBA Europe Cup won with Dinamo Sassari in 2019 and the Israeli league title claimed with Hapoel Holon in 2021–22. These titles, earned around the world, have made him a consistently sought-after player on the European market—and now, on the Asian market as well.
