Jannik Sinner advances to the Wimbledon final for the second consecutive time, following his run to the final—which he ultimately won—in 2025: in the second semifinal of the London tournament, he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the second semifinal of the London tournament, with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory that came after just under two and a half hours of play. Sinner will face Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final; Zverev defeated home favorite (and surprise wild card) Arthur Fery in three sets in the first semifinal.

In the first set, the decisive break came in the ninth game: despite his efforts (he had already saved a break point at 2-2 and fended off one of two set points), the Serbian had to contend with a Sinner who was extremely effective on serve and generally very focused on every shot. In the second set, the situation played out much the same way, with the difference that the break needed to pull away from Djokovic came in the seventh game.

The third and final set saw Jannik immediately take control of the match, with an early break at the end of an extremely long first game (about nine minutes on court, with three break points saved by Nole) that proved to be the deciding factor between the two: Djokovic deserves credit for fighting until the very end, but Sinner leaves him no room to breathe and secures his seventh victory in twelve head-to-head matches, avenging his semifinal loss at the Australian Open last January.

Sinner is the defending champion at Wimbledon, a tournament where, in addition to his victorious final in 2025, he also reached the semifinals in 2023, where he was stopped by Djokovic himself. In last year’s final, he defeated Carlos Alcaraz 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4: the Murcia native, still recovering from an injury sustained in the spring, is the notable absentee from this year’s tournament.

Djokovic, on the other hand, has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon for the 16th time in his career, out of 20 appearances. The Serbian has won the tournament seven times, triumphing in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. Last year, it was Jannik Sinner who defeated him, preventing him from reaching the tournament final for the first time since 2017. This year, history repeated itself.
