Flavio Cobolli, a flop after Wimbledon: eliminated early at the ATP 250 in Umag

Flavio Cobolli’s run at the ATP 250 in Umag came to an end in the round of 16. The Roman tennis player, seeded No. 1 and directly qualified for the second round, was defeated by Argentine Roman Andres Burruchaga, who won decisively 6-2, 6-4 after one hour and 40 minutes of play, thereby securing a spot in the quarterfinals, where he will face the winner of the match between Pablo Carreño Busta and Camilo Ugo Carabelli (the No. 7 seed).
The match got off to a rough start for the Italian, who lost his serve in the opening game. Cobolli managed to avoid another break in the third game, saving a break point to prevent falling behind 0-3, but he never managed to take control of the match. Burruchaga secured a second break in the seventh game and, without hesitation, closed out the first set 6-2 in just 36 minutes.
In the second set, the top seed tried to fight back. After saving a break point in the opening game, Cobolli stayed in the hunt until 3-3. The deadlock was broken in the seventh game, when the Argentine broke serve in deuce. The Italian managed to respond with an immediate breakback, but in the ninth game he lost his serve again, once more in deuce.
Serving for the match, Burruchaga faced a break point at 30-40, but he kept his cool, winning three consecutive points and closing out the match 6-4 after one hour and four minutes in the second set.
