The race to sign Jhon Lucumí has a new contender. In addition to interest from several Premier League clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, AC Milan has also reportedly made an inquiry about the Colombian defender, according to some South American media outlets. Juventus, however, continues to see itself as the frontrunner thanks to the player’s apparent interest in the club and its good relations with Bologna—factors that could facilitate the deal.

It’s worth noting that Juventus’ interest in Lucumí is far from recent. As early as last winter’s transfer window, Luciano Spalletti had identified the Colombian as his top defensive target, sparking a transfer battle with Roma, which had also been tracking him for some time before being outmaneuvered in the race to sign the player. Lucumí’s history with Bologna is, after all, already marked by a significant precedent: last summer, the Colombian was on the verge of joining Sunderland, but the transfer was blocked by the Rossoblù following Beukema’s departure to Napoli. Since then, the defender has shown no signs of being open to renewing his contract, which expires in 2027—a stalemate that effectively forces the Emilia-based club to consider a sale.

As for the competition, Inter had also long viewed Lucumí as the ideal fit for its defensive overhaul, with sporting director Piero Ausilio having included him on the list of candidates to carry on the legacy of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan De Vrij. Inter’s interest was genuine, but it does not appear to have translated into a decisive move, leaving the field open for Juventus. The €28 million buyout clause, valid until July 15, has now expired, meaning the Colombian’s price will now be subject to open negotiations, though Bologna is unlikely to go below €25 million.

Significant financial relief could also come from the possible sale of Tarik Muharemovic. The Bosnian center back is being closely monitored by several English clubs, and Juventus is watching developments with particular attention, given that it is entitled to 50% of the proceeds from a future resale. According to the latest rumors, Leeds United is reportedly ready to offer a sum close to 40 million euros, outbidding Sunderland and Bournemouth.
