Juventus Transfer Market: It’s Not Just Franck Kessié—There’s a High-Profile Alternative for Midfield

The final days of the summer transfer window have been extremely hectic for Juventus, which is looking to bolster Luciano Spalletti’s squad with a new midfielder. At the top of the list is still Franck Kessié, who has told his agents that he wants to return to Serie A and specifically wants to play for Juventus. As revealed by Sky Sport, the midfielder has given a firm “yes” to Juve, putting other offers from across Europe on hold while he waits for the club to create the conditions to seal the deal.
To make room for Kessié, however, Juventus must free up space in midfield: a single transfer isn’t enough (Arthur is the leading candidate); at least two are needed to organize the roster available to Luciano Spalletti while maintaining financial sustainability. This is the only real obstacle holding up a deal that is otherwise already well underway, with the player ready to return to the league that launched his career during his time at Atalanta and Milan.
The transfer market, however, can hold some bitter surprises, which is why Juventus’s management continues to explore other options as well. Among the players being closely monitored is Leon Goretzka, a high-profile free agent following the end of his stint with Bayern Munich. The German international, coming off years of success and having played a central role on the Bavarian team, is evaluating the best offer for the next phase of his career, and Juventus has long been one of the clubs most interested in him.
Goretzka therefore represents a prestigious alternative—a “Plan B” that, in reality, carries the weight of a parallel “Plan A”: his experience, physicality, quality, and ability to make an impact in both phases of play make him an ideal fit for Spalletti should the Kessié deal fall through at the last minute. In short, the two paths lead to different players but are both viable; however, they depend above all on outgoing transfers and the club’s ability to tie up loose ends in this regard before the transfer window closes.
